A Zagreb resident explains how he reduced gas and electricity bills

Starting in November, electricity bills for Croatian households will increase by 6.5%, with a second wave of hikes expected after New Year’s, bringing the total rise to 10%. Although relatively small compared to other EU countries, Croatian households will still spend an additional 80 euros per year on average.

The uncertainties in the energy market have prompted more citizens to seek energy independence. 2023 was a record year for the installation of photovoltaic solar systems in the EU, with 55.9 GW installed across 27 member states—a 40% increase compared to 2022.

Our interviewee, Damir Ćurković, joined the EU citizens who recognized the multiple benefits of solar panels. He installed 11 panels with a capacity of 5.06 kWp on his home, which includes three apartments in Gornja Dubrava, Zagreb.
